NATURAL COLOR

Botanically dyed Dusty Pink, extracted from avocado skins and stones. This by-product of the food industry that would otherwise be disposed, gets a second life as garment dye. In contrast to synthetic dyes, natural dyes always give a unique result, which depends on various factors. The properties of the specific plant, the composition of the dye bath and the dyeing method define the final color.

MATERIAL

Nuno felting is a technique that bonds loose fiber (usually wool) with sheer woven fabric (fairly heavy silk was used for this particular coat), creating a two-faced fabric. The highly intensive process mostly consists out of extensively rubbing together piled up fibers. Hereby the curly wool fibers grab onto the fine silk yarn and slowly but surely start to form a substantial surface. To fixate the binding, the process is concluded by alternately soaking the fabric in hot and cold baths.

Base layer: 100% New Zealand wool. Upper layer: 100% Crêpe de Chine silk. Yarn: 100% Icelandic wool.
